Develop Human Resources for the Promotion of Grobal Forest Management and Conservation

JIFPRO carries out technical training programmes to develop human resources at home and abroad for the promotion of sustainable management and conservation of forests.
Developing Human Resources at Home

JIFPRO annually holds a two-week long technical workshop, in actual forests in Southeast Asia, called thegTraining Workshop on the Rehabilitation of Tropical Forests.hThis is designed for Japanese private sector activists such as members of NGOs, who are engaged in international forestry cooperation activities. So far over 300 individuals have participated in the Workshop.

JIFPRO also carries out annual training workshops on Afforestation/Reforestation project activities under the Clean Development Mechanism (A/R CDM). These workshops focus on: training participants to develop successful applications for A/R CDM projects; planning, implementation, managing and monitoring of projects;and measuring GHG removals by sinks, etc. in order to develop human resources necessary for smooth implementation of A/R CDM projects. Over 100 individuals so far have undergone this training and, among those, some are already engaged in actual activities in the field, applying their knowledge in practice.

Finding and Registering Experts

In order to facilitate Japan's success in achieving international cooperation for the promotion of sustainable management and conservation of forests, JIFPRO has a programme to find and register experts who will participate in such activities, thereby supporting their involvement. About 540 experts so far have been registered in this programme and over 170 of them, many as JICA Experts, have been in the field.
